Adam, thanks for finding this episode! I’d never even seen the TV version, so it was really nice to hear a Dragnet I hadn’t heard before!

One thing I wanted to mention about this and other episodes was the extremely elderly sound of the 52-year-old man’s voice. Until he mentioned his age, I assumed he was at least in his 60s or possibly early 70s. I’ve noticed this on the show for other characters over about 45. He also seemed to assume his life was over, that he was too old to change. (Granted, he did die a few years later) As a 52-year-old myself, I wonder if people in their 50s were perceived as much older then than they are now, since life expectancies were probably lower. Or maybe because Jack Webb was only about 30, 50-year-olds did seem old to him.
